Unread Authors Challenge

>> Monday, August 13, 2007

So – here I am with the Southern Reading Challenge recently completed and nearing completion of the Summer Mystery Challenge – that means there’s room for new challenges on the TBR list.

Unread Authors Challenge is being sponsored at Sycorax Pine. It runs from September 1, 2007 through February 28, 2008. Participants need to read six books by authors they have never read before. I’m choosing to read six new-to-me authors (one a month for the duration of the challenge).

I’ve got a few unread authors already scheduled for other challenges, so rounding out the list with a few more from my ever-growing TBR list wasn’t difficult at all. One thing I can count on from my fellow bookbloggers is a never ending supply of new authors I want to read.

Books I’m planning for this one:
· Tess Gerritsen - The Surgeon
· Erica Spindler – Forbidden Fruit
· Linda Barnes – A Trouble of Fools
· Chris Bohjalian – Buffalo Soldier
· Cory McFayden – Shadow Man
· Robert Crais – The Monkey’s Raincoat

Welcome to the challenge! What an intriguing list you have; all the authors are new to me as well, so I look forward to hearing any recommendations you might have after you are done with them.

I love your list! Tess Gerritsen is a terrific thriller writer. Okay, so I've only read one of her books so far, but it's true! Monkey's Raincoat is a great mystery. And I like Chris Bohjalian's writing, although I've only read one book by him. It wasn't my favorite story, but I've heard his other books (like the one you'll be reading) are better.

All the other authors on your lists I've been wanting to read for quite a while. I look forward to reading your thoughts on each book!

Great list! Enjoy reading those!

I feels good to finish challenges and add new ones, doesn't it? I love challenges and picking books for them is as much fun as reading them. I could just about copy your list when I join. Haven't read any of those authors. Sometimes it feels like I'm a little tiny gnat in the bookworld. So many books, so little time! And such a small brain!

Whoohoo! I think you'll enjoy McFayden's Shadow Man. I need to remember to get his follow-up at the library!

Now to decide if I should partake in yet another challenge...

Pour of Tor: Thanks for sponsoring this one - I'm looking forward to it.

Literary Feline: I already had Tess Gerritsen on my list for the Medical Mystery Challenge - I can't believe I haven't read any of hers yet. Glad to hear Monkey's Raincoat is good too.

ML: thanks!

Booklogged: Yeah - I'm addicted to challenges - I learned earlier this year that I HAVE to be careful to not become overbooked with them. I need to leave room in the reading time for 'whimpulse' reads :-)

Les: Between you and Joy, I'd added him to my list a while ago, so this is a good kickstart to get it on the reading schedule.

I've read two Tess Gerritsen books and they freaked me out so completely that I never read on. The Monkey's Raincoat is a hoot - love it. I've only read one book by Bohjalian - can't remember the name, but it was nonfiction (collected book of his columns) and I really enjoyed it till it started to get repetitive. I still want to try his fiction. Erica Spindler . . . not sure why I still haven't gotten to her! I must be afraid of her books. She's really sweet; I've met her and she said, "I am a cupcake," but that she decided the only way she was going to make money was to delve into mystery. And, apparently, it worked. LOL

Have fun!!!!

I love Tess Gerritsen! I hope you enjoy her books as well!

Dammit SUZI!! = )
Of course this intrigues me and I will be joining....I posted somewhere that I am weirdly semi-self-competitive and this is perfect for that.
I have the McFadyen book on Mt Git'r'Read and the title 'Monkey's Raincoat' amuses my love of groovy titles.

Suzi: I tried two times, but could not get my post of wanting to join the challenge to take. If you know what I am doing wrong, let me know. I do want to join and I have this link to get to my list:

Joy 8/18/2007 4:44 AM

What great choices! I have read 4 of the authors and really enjoyed them all. You have a lot of great reading ahead of you! :)

SuziQoregon 8/18/2007 5:51 AM

Bookfool: So . . . I'm guessing there's a chance that the Tess Gerritsen one won't pass 'The Bookfool Test' ?? ;-)

Amanda: Thanks - I'm looking forward to all of these.

Vickie: hee hee hee - sorry (not really). As for the link, I really don't know - you might try posting a comment on Pour of Tor's blog (link is in my post).

Joy: I'll be posting a list for your 2nd challenge soon too.

Vickie 8/18/2007 7:31 AM

Suzi: That's where I tried the first two times. The only thing I can figure is she has a filter to read the posts first before they get to show up. Thanks, toots.

Yes - I seem to remember that she's got comment moderation turned on for her blog.

Thanks for reading. Feel free to leave a comment. I read and respond them here although not always right away. If you would prefer an email response let me know.

I do moderate comments on posts older than 14 days in order to control spam. I will approve your legitimate comments as soon as I can.
