Why I didn't read much last weekend

>> Tuesday, July 14, 2009

It was our annual family get together at Dad's house in Trout Lake, Washington near Mount Adams. Lots of family, lots of food, lots of fun, but very little reading.

and one very tired dog . . .

It was pretty much a meat fest that included Beer butt chicken . . .

and my brother's famous driveway jambalaya (cast iron dutch oven with hot coals underneath and on top) . . .

The backyard of the B&B we stayed at in town.

Diego the B&B cat.

and a few more pictures just for the heck of it.

why am i not living in this heavenly oasis?!???! such stunning photographs!

(but what is bear butt chicken?! i'm almost afraid to ask--it looks a bit scary!)

Karen: it's a fun tradition. This was the first time we'd stayed at that B&b and the creek is so pretty.

Booklogged: Yeah - we do this one every year. It's nice to see folks and just relax and kick back.

BookLineandSinker: it's BEER butt chicken. Just a dry rub of spices on the chicken, then drop them down on a half full can of beer - they stand up and cook on the grill for about an hour and 15 min. YUMMY. And yes, the area where Dad lives is just gorgeous this time of year. Too much snow in the wintertime for me, but great in the summer.

Kailana: it's always so pretty up there, I love taking my camera.

Debbie: Thanks so much for stopping by!

Literary Feline: thank you - it's an annual event at Dads and we do have fun. Mostly it's just hang out and enjoy the people and the day.

Matt: his name is Riley and by late afternoon he was just hot and exhausted.

Shellie: Oh, but I'd trade for Scottsdale in February ;-)

Wendy: it's just a relaxing and enjoyable weekend. It's just a pretty area up there.

Anna: thanks!!

Beer butt chicken and Diego look like things you need to skip out on reading to enjoy. I love the nature shots too. Glad you enjoyed time with your family.

Looks absolutely gorgeous! Never heard of beer butt chicken but you've got me very curious. I so wish we had scenery like this in Texas.

Bookfool 7/19/2009 7:01 PM

Okay. Green with envy. Diego the B & B cat looks just like our Spooky!

SuziQoregon 7/20/2009 7:39 AM

Nicole: thanks! and yes Beer butt chicken is good!

Diane: thanks - fun day, good weather and a nice chance to catch up with the family.

Trish: Oh chicken fixed that way is SO good! Google either beer butt or beer can chicken for info. I highly recommend it.

Bookfool: Diego is funny - he led us around the yard and down to the creek. Gave us a nice tour.
